Nameserver updates are typically an automated process designed to take effect seamlessly.
When you update your nameservers through the client area, the changes should be applied automatically. However, it’s important to note that DNS propagation, the process of updating records across all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and regions, can take anywhere between 10 minutes and 48 hours to complete. This delay is normal and depends on various factors, including caching policies and the geographical location of DNS servers, etc.
In rare cases, nameserver updates may fail due to unexpected issues. If your nameservers have not updated even after 48 hours, we recommend reaching out to our customer support team for assistance. They will help identify the root cause and provide a resolution promptly.
Follow these steps for additional verification:
1. How to check current nameservers?
Go to whois.codehost.in
Enter your domain name without https:// or http:// or www.
Only the domain name only. If you have a domain https://www.example.com please enter example.com only in the search box.
Click on 'Search'
You'll be able to see the current nameservers for your domain
If the displayed nameservers match your desired configuration, congratulations! Your nameservers have been successfully updated, and you can now start using your domain. If your nameservers have been successfully updated but your domain is still not live, click here to begin troubleshooting. This guide will help you identify and resolve common issues preventing your domain from functioning as expected.
If the desired nameservers differ from the current ones, we recommend waiting a few hours and rechecking the status. DNS updates can take time to propagate. If the nameservers remain unchanged after 24 hours, please contact our support team for further assistance.
2. How to check DNS propagation?
- Go to dnschecker.org
- Enter your domain name & click on "Search"
- Then you'll be able to see the propagation of your DNS records in different regions. If the DNS records are not propagated in any specific area, it will be showing as X (red cross). That means you need to wait some more time.
Common Toubleshooting Methods
If your nameservers have been successfully updated but your domain is still not live, try these steps to address common issues:
Clear Browser Cache and Cookies
- Outdated cache or cookies might be preventing you from viewing the updated domain. Clear your browser's cache and cookies, then refresh the page.
Clear Local DNS Cache
- Your device might still be using cached DNS records. Flush the DNS cache to force your system to fetch the latest records.
Test Connectivity with Ping and Traceroute
- Use the
ping
ortraceroute
(ortracert
on Windows) commands to identify any connectivity issues between your device and the server.
- Use the
Use a VPN as a Temporary Fix
- If the issue is related to ISP-specific DNS propagation delays, try using a VPN to access the domain from a different location.
Check for Incorrect Nameservers
- Double-check that the correct nameservers were provided and entered during the update process.
Verify Nameserver Configuration
- Ensure the nameservers are properly configured with the necessary DNS records at the hosting provider.
Address Landing Page Issues
- If your domain is showing a placeholder or landing page, ensure the domain is correctly pointed to your website's hosting environment and that the necessary DNS records (e.g., A, CNAME) are in place.
